Industries: Ownership and Control 1) What is a  conglomerate  in the media industries?  A conglomerate in media is the company/industry that is better such as Disney and Pixar, out of the 2 Disney is the top company not just in Pixar but out of all media companies. 2) What is a  subsidiary ? Audience Effects Theory 1.   Audience: Reception Theory 1) What is the preferred reading of a media text? When producers communicate and it influences the audience in some kind of way (Mostly stereotypes). 2) What is the oppositional reading of a media text? When what the readers are trying to create become the opposite of what they intend to make. 3) How does the Harry Brown trailer position the audience to respond to the teenage characters in the film?   The trailer give us the view that teenagers are care free, rebellious, catastrophic, dangerous and have no self awareness about the choices they are making. 4) Why might young people reject this reading and construct an oppositional reading of the trailer? Media Companies use Gender, Age, Income, Education and Occupation 2) Why are media companies and advertisers increasingly using audience profiling and not just demographics?
