Audience: Reception Theory
Audience: Reception Theory
1) What is the preferred reading of a media text? When producers communicate and it influences the audience in some kind of way (Mostly stereotypes).
2) What is the oppositional reading of a media text?
When what the readers are trying to create become the opposite of what they intend to make.
3) How does the Harry Brown trailer position the audience to respond to the teenage characters in the film?
The trailer give us the view that teenagers are care free, rebellious, catastrophic, dangerous and have no self awareness about the choices they are making.
4) Why might young people reject this reading and construct an oppositional reading of the trailer?
Young people would feel more drawn away from the trailer as the believe that they don't do anything, however some also understand that some young people act like what they'd see in the trailer.
5) Write a 150+ word analysis of the McDonald's advert using preferred, negotiated and oppositional readings.
McDonald's preferred to use negotiated reading as they want to use what people think about their product so they can put they're experiences part of their adverts. The writing in the poster states 'It's as good as it is big'. Making the meal seem delicious and bigger because nobody would be willing to getting something small they make the product look and described like how the audience would want to have it. On top of that they take the audiences opinions on their product to either make it better or to make a new product. They include small notes about their product to also make it seem more desirable.
