Advertising and Marketing: Key conventions
Advertising and Marketing: Key conventions
Part 1: Skittles Advert Analysis
1) What key conventions of print adverts can you find and what are the connotations or deeper meanings of each convention? For each convention, write about how it communicates meaning to the audience. See the Maltesers advert above for an example of how to do this.
The key convention of print adverts is pictures of the products, logos and a slogan. pictures of the products showcase is to be sold, logos give an idea of what kind of product is being sold and it's social status and slogans can also give the idea of what is being sold or something to enlighten the product to make it seem better.
2) What is the USP (unique selling point) for Skittles and how do you know? Does the advert use any of persuasive techniques listed above?
I think the USP for Skittles is the Slogan 'Taste the rainbow' because it has a colour vibrancy in the product and in the product poster. The advert includes the mentioning of a slogan and pictures of the product.
