Statement of intent feedback and redraft
For my music video, I have chosen the song Hall of Fame by Stray Kids. I intentionally selected this track because it represents the idea of breaking free from the shell that one is trapped in. Both the music and the lyrics convey a powerful message about discovering your true potential and rising above limitations whilst at the same time the protagonist is experiencing going to and doing different things to find where they most belong. The song’s high energy, intensity, and motivational lyrics inspired me to use it as the foundation for a story about personal growth, confidence, and self-empowerment. My main goal for this music video is to inspire and motivate people to push beyond fear and judgment, encouraging them to embrace who they really are. I believe that this music video will give them the push they need to additionally understand that they don't have to have all of the answers or figure out what they want or have to do now. This includes pushing them to go at their own pace experimenting on different aspects of their lives that they love whilst showing that not everything is perfect and there are unpredictable things that could get in the way but that shouldn't stop them from living how they want. I want to give people the same sense of strength and freedom that the song expresses, showing that, just like in Hall of Fame, anyone can overcome obstacles when they believe in themselves.
To visually communicate this message, I will use a variety of camera angles. A Dutch angle will be used to represent the protagonist’s emotional state and confusion at the beginning of their journey, showing that their world feels unstable and uncertain. A low angle will be used as the protagonist starts to grow, symbolizing their newfound confidence and determination as they begin to rise. Finally, a high angle will show the moment of success, emphasizing how they have achieved their goals and become stronger by trusting themselves.
I intend to use theories such as Todorov's and potentials Blumler and Katz character theory. While I intend to use Todorov's theory the idea would be reversed from Equilibrium, Disruption, Recognition, Attempted Restoration and New Equilibrium into Disruption, Recognition, Attempted Restoration, Equilibrium and New Equilibrium (These 2 can be reversed). Although the order of Todorov's theory is reversed and mixed into a new plot I believe it is the most suitable plot for my music video. However most of Todorov's theories in the music video wouldn't be noticeable at first sight, clear insight and connotation would have to be used to notice the deeper meaning of each individual clip. As for Blumler and Katz's theory my goal is to use Information/Surveillance, Personal Identity and Entertainment/Diversion in my music video as they reflect onto the protagonists physical, mental and emotional view on their life as I had intended for my music video to go about.
I did not plan to use a non-diegetic sound for the music video however if I managed to gain/use as suitable clip there may be potential for some. One of my other main goals is to maintain focus on the music and visuals, enhancing its authenticity and emotional power to inspire the targeted audience on developing and romanticizing their lives as an individual. The target audience for my music video is primarily young adults who may feel restricted or judged by others.
Apart from Stray Kids, I believe they would also enjoy artists such as Seventeen, Enhypen, Ateez, TXT, Twice, ITZY, NMIXX, NewJeans, ILLIT, Aespa, IVE, Le Sserafim, Katseye, Kiss of Life, and (G)I-DLE, as these groups share similar messages of empowerment and individuality. If they do not share the interest, I recommend them to find and listen to who they take interest in and if so listen to something new for a different experience of listening.
