Statement of intent feedback and redraft
. For my music video, I have chosen the song Hall of Fame by Stray Kids. I intentionally selected this track because it represents the idea of breaking free from the shell that one is trapped in. This includes being in a fixed area where it's dark and not what the protagonist wants to live around. In addition, they have feelings and thoughts about themselves being a liability that affects how they want to live.
. Both the music and the lyrics in the song convey a powerful message about discovering your true potential and rising above limitations (While it may not be completely visual the protagonist experiences different things in life that are much brighter for them). Seeing and or doing different things to find where they most belong.
Simple Summary of music video:
A girl (The protagonist) feels stuck on where she is and it shows that she knows what she wants to do with her life however feels trapped between 1 thing and another causing her to deflect herself and ability. She goes about most of her life experiencing many things some being what she loves, some being dull and what she wants to escape and some are brighter. After realising how stuck she felt she decides to finally do what she wants. Upon this she additionally realises that she would lose the people and things she loves by pursing what she wants (Not permanently) but goes ahead with it despite as it is her decision. Doing this she feels lighter and more content with her life and regains quite a bit of confidence with herself again.
. The main goal of the music video also being to encourage teenagers to pursue what they want in life and to not wait for someones permission. In addition to inspire and motivate people to push beyond fear and judgement, encouraging them to embrace who they really are.
. The song’s high energy, intensity, and motivational lyrics inspired me to use it as the foundation for a story about personal growth, confidence, and self-empowerment. I believe that this music video will give them the push they need to additionally understand that they don't have to have all of the answers or figure out what they want or have to do now.
. This also shows not everyone is perfect and there are unpredictable things that could get in the way but that shouldn't stop anyone from living how they want. I want to give people the same sense of strength and freedom that the song expresses, showing that, just like in Hall of Fame, anyone can overcome obstacles when they believe in themselves.
. This music videos is different to others as the main view would be the pov of the protagonist at some points most of it being themselves and who or what they see in their lives rather than just being one main character so that in this you mainly see what the protagonists is seeing in their story. There our other music videos with views like this such as Ed Sheeran's song Sapphire or Galway Girl which carries more of his pov rather than a full music video itself.
. To visually communicate this message, I will attempt to use a variety of camera angles. A Dutch angle will be used to represent the protagonist’s emotional state and confusion at the beginning of their journey, showing that their world feels unstable and uncertain. A low angle will be used as the protagonist starts to grow, symbolising their newfound confidence and determination as they begin to rise. Finally, a high angle will show the moment of success, emphasising how they have achieved their goals and become stronger by trusting themselves. (While I may have not have all these angles in my music video I still attempted to set the recordings that carry areas of impact).
. I intend to use theories such as Todorov's and potentials Blumler and Katz character theory. While I intend to use Todorov's theory the idea would be reversed from Equilibrium, Disruption, Recognition, Attempted Restoration and New Equilibrium into Disruption, Recognition, Attempted Restoration, Equilibrium and New Equilibrium (These 2 can be reversed).
. Although the order of Todorov's theory is reversed and mixed into a new plot I believe it is the most suitable plot for my music video. However most of Todorov's theories in the music video wouldn't be noticeable at first sight, clear insight and connotation would have to be used to notice the deeper meaning of each individual clip.
. As for Blumler and Katz's theory my goal is to use Information/Surveillance, Personal Identity and Entertainment/Diversion in my music video as they reflect onto the protagonists physical, mental and emotional view on their life as I had intended for my music video to go about.
. For props the protagonist uses/holds a series of different things throughout the music video. This includes headphones, flashcards and a cat.
. I did not plan to use a non-diegetic sound for the music video however if I managed to gain/use as suitable clip there may be potential for some. One of my other main goals is to maintain focus on the music and visuals, enhancing its authenticity and emotional power to inspire the targeted audience on developing and romanticising their lives as an individual. The target audience for my music video is primarily young adults who may feel restricted or judged by others.
. Apart from Stray Kids, I believe they would also enjoy artists such as Seventeen, Enhypen, Ateez, NewJeans, Aespa, IVE, Le Sserafim and (G)I-DLE as these groups share similar messages of empowerment and individuality. If they do not share the interest, I recommend them to find and listen to who they take interest in and if so listen to something new for a different experience whether it's artist or genre.
